BPCs sales lift to early potato crop

EARLY potatoes are to receive a £500,000 sales boost from the British Potato Council.

The campaign will start at the beginning of May to coincide with first liftings. Samples will be dashed by motorbike initially from Cornwall and Pembroke, then from other areas like Kent and East Anglia to special tasting lunches in major cities across the UK.

Supermarket point of sale and catering trade promotions, and advertising campaigns in the press and on TV will help build demand which should be maintained for the rest of the season, says the BPC. &#42
