Breeding firm debutant eyes 20% of UK market
NEW pig breeding company ACMC claims to offer a range of products to help commercial producers meet the demands of specific markets.
The company, launched last week, is based in Beeford, East Yorks.
Its new range of breeding animals is the result of seven years work, says chairman Stephen Curtis, who aims to corner 20% of the UK market.
The portfolio includes a hybrid gilt claimed to give outstanding performance on both indoor and outdoor units. "Our Meidam dam line GP is the first female pig which has been designed for indoor or outdoor breeding and will give producers a consistency of end product. It is especially suited to outdoor producers, enabling them to breed pigs of genetic merit comparable to those produced by indoor herds."
And there are four Vantage terminal sire lines. The Vantage FC boar is said to be an all-round sire with high lean tissue growth and hybrid vigour. The Vantage LW is the classic Large White male, hardy enough to be used on outdoor systems and expected to produce consistently high carcass grade classifications.
The Vantage EC is intended for producers aiming to meet tight grading specifications, with very low backfat scores and a high degree of muscling, while the Vantage MQ is a boar derived from Duroc bloodlines with slightly higher intramuscular fat and darker coloured meat.
