Britain clashes with EC over regional aid

BRITAIN has clashed with the European Commission over proposed new European Union regional aid rules.

The UK fears the rules could cost its regions hundreds of millions of pounds in the new millennium.

The most serious dispute concerns the new Objective 2 category covering industrial and rural areas, in which Britain could lose out heavily.
