British organic farmer takes on Europe
ORGANIC farmer Rachel Rowlands has signed a multi-million pound deal with Horizon, Americas main organic dairy producer.
The move is designed to expand the European market for the dairy and yoghurt products made by Ms Rowlands company, Rachels Dairy.
Ms Rowlands started her business in 1982 by using spare milk from her 101ha (250 acre) farm at Borth, near Aberystwyth, to make yoghurt and cream.
She now operates her company from a factory at Aberystwyth with a staff of 48.
The US tie-up could lead to other processing plants opening, possibly in Cornwall and Lancashire.
