AN EXCELLENT trade took the average price to £2144 at a reduction sale from Doug Mashs Brockhurst herd of Limousins at Chesham, Bucks last weekend.

Top price of 5000gns came for the 15-month-old Brockhurst Macari, a son of the successful sire Greensons Hobbit, the highest Limousin EBV bull in the UK with an EBV score of 89.

Macari, out of a Fenrose dam, went to T Evans, Haddenham, Cambs.

The Brockhurst herd, founded in 1988, has established itself among the best in the country, following investments in some of the breeds most influential bloodlines.

Last years show team took a host of county titles – and the 8500gns Brockhurst Liskeard was the second-highest Limousin price at Perth in February.

Among last Saturdays top prices was 3000gns for the imported maiden heifer Louche. This daughter of Hooker, which stood champion at the 1997 Paris Show, was bought by W Wright, Chesterfield.

Leading the cows and calves at 2350gns was Helice, a 1992-bred cow by Colomb, which also sired this years Paris Show female champion.

Helice was sold suckling a February-born heifer calf by Brockhurst Jobling. Buyers were W Fenemore and Son, Buckingham. (Midland Marts)
