‘Brussels caved in over GM’
THE European Commission is accused of caving in to biotechnology firms over genetically modified crops, reports The Guardian.
Brussels has angered environmentalists by indicating it wants to scrap a Europe-wide moratorium on approval of new types of GM food, says the paper.
Greenpeace said the commission was in the pocket of US biotechnology companies who are desperate to sell their products in Europe, it adds.
No new GM crops have been authorised for sale or use in European Union countries for about two years after public concerns about their safety
