Brussels thumbs-up for pig on-goers

BRUSSELS has given formal clearance for pig producers to restructure their farms under the governments Pig Industry Restructuring Scheme.

Agriculture minister Nick Brown said his department would now work hard to get the so-called on-goers scheme up and running early in the new year.

Payments to farmers who leave the industry was granted earlier this month.

The out-goers initiative for farmers who have already left the industry or want to quit received over 600 requests for information in its first week.
