BSE reaches Japan

By FWi staff

JAPAN has reported its first ever case of BSE in a five-year-old dairy cow in Chiba, on the east coast of central Japan, according to The Times.

The ministry of agriculture said the carcass of the animal had been destroyed following discovery of the disease.

A spokesman added that there was no risk to consumers of BSE being passed to humans through drinking milk.
