CA march attracts plenty of support

HUNDREDS of farmers and countryside sports enthusiasts took part in various stages of the Countryside Alliances 120 mile march from Machynlleth to Cardiff.

At rallies held en route speaker after speaker attacked the Labour government and the partys national assembly for Wales members for ignoring the farming crisis, the linked threat to rural communities and for riding roughshod over cherished countryside traditions.

Addressing the closing rally as he did the first, Bob Parry, president of the Farmers Union of Wales, accused the government of hypocrisy in its handling of all countryside issues. To save money on a processing scheme MAFF was even advising farmers to give surplus calves to hunt kennels.

Politicians acknowledged that farming was in deep trouble, but, such was their disdain towards the countryside, they were not prepared to tackle the problems. &#42
