Call centre scheme reckless – union
MAFFs proposal to replace its regional service centres with a "remote" call centre service, shedding 1800 jobs in the process, is a reckless gamble with taxpayers money, the Public and Commercial Services Union has warned.
Union members at MAFFs Bristol office said the regions farming communities would suffer dire consequences if the proposed changes are made to the ministrys local structure. This would cut the interface between MAFFand the farmer and see subsidy and grant applications made via the internet.
Currently £1.6bn of European money is paid through MAFFs nine regional offices.
"The local interface between Ministry and farmer is essential in carrying out this process," said union representative Caroline Campbell-Hill.
