Carr’s weathers foot-and-mouth crisis

By FWi staff

CARRS Milling Industries, the agriculture, food and engineering group, has reported annual profit of just over 2 million, despite the foot-and-mouth crisis.

While the Carlisle-based firms profits of 2.06m were slightly down on last years 2.17m, it described the results as “very respectable”.

Carrs Milling has cut costs by merging three sales divisions and closing a fertiliser blending plant in Glasgow, reports the Daily Express.

The company saw farmers hit by foot-and-mouth turn to its equipment to grow alternative crops.

Carrs Milling is hopeful of further progress, although the impact of foot-and-mouth on its businesses is likely to worsen.

Shares, which fell to 83.5p in March, closed at 132.5p, down 6p.
