Cat loaders in debut among tackle giants
Cat loaders in debut among tackle giants
Agriculture boasts some
pretty hefty kit but they pale into relative obscurity
compared to some of the
giant machines on display
at the recent Site
Equipment Demonstration.
Andy Collings reports
FOR those interested in big earthmovers, diggers or sky-scraping mobile cranes – the Site Equipment Demonstration (SED) was the place to be last week. And for those of more humbler agricultural aspirations looking for an excuse to attend, there was plenty of kit which would have been equally at home on the farm.
Not least in this department, were three compact wheeled loaders seen for the first time in the UK from Caterpillar. The Cat 902, 906 and 908 are offered with power ratings of 45hp, 60hp and a turbo-blown 80hp. Two-speed hydrostatic transmissions are employed throughout the range.
Maximum lift capacities are 3t and 3.6t and 4t and when fitted with pallet forks, lift heights are 2.9m, 3m and 3.3m respectively. Caterpillar is able to provide a range of attachments to suit most farm requirements.
In terms of handling the machines are capable of a 40 degree articulation to provide a manoeuvrability in confined quarters and a cab height of 2.6m should allow entry to most, if not all, buildings.
As with the majority of rear engined vehicles of this type, it would be hard to better access to the engine for servicing – a situation enhanced by their high lifting hoods.
Price of the Cat 902 starts at £33,374 and the 906, £36,615.
For farm or construction use, the Cat 906 wheeled loader makes its debut at SED. Features include a 40deg articulation.
