Cattle all-clear
SCIENTISTS have given the all clear to a batch of cattle imported from France which were suspected of carrying brucellosis.
Bacteriological culture tests on samples from a cow slaughtered in Cumbria three weeks ago have returned negative.
The animal, an in-calf heifer, was one of 44 cattle imported at the start of February for restocking a farm after foot-and-mouth.
There has not been a confirmed case of brucellosis in the UK for almost 10 years.
The government offers compensation to farmers who suspect they have an infected animal. *
