Champion is crowd puller

A CHANCE to buy this summers Royal Show junior Holstein champion and a catalogue packed with fashionable imported pedigrees drew a crowd into the Yorks Dales for a tempting selection from the Eshton, Aireburn and Airebank herds.

It was the decision of host vendor Phillip Green to include his young Royal Show star that paid off handsomely after a committed spate of bidding in the usual style of Alan Bristow to secure the heifer at 7800gns.

Eshton Mason Kandy is by Shoremar Mason out of Pioneer Welsh Kandy, a Walkerbrae Majestic daughter.

Sharing the ride home at 3600gns was Eshton Dannix Fontaene 4th, a calved heifer out of a Southwind cow.

Also at 3600gns was the 12-week-old red and white calf Eshton Elegant Ashley, an Arnell Elegant daughter out of the imported cow Emlane Milestone Ashley. Buyers were B and L Whitfield and Son, Daventry, Northants.

Chester dairy farmer S Eardley gave 2300gns for the prizewinning calved heifer Eshton Astre Signet and Groby Lodge Estate, Leicester also paid 2300gns for the Italian-bred five-month-old calf Eshton Top Gun Barbara 2nd.

Freshly calved young cows and heifers from Brian Moorhouses Aireburn herd and Gerald Halls Airebank herd sold well. Airebanks best was a 2700gns call from Mark Towers of Ulverston, Cumbria, for the second calver Lactomont Patsy Matt. Gordon Wilson took a Shoremar Mason calved heifer from Airebank at 2600gns to add to his Petteril herd in Cumbria. Best for Aireburn was 1300gns given twice for Raider and Starboy heifers.
