Top pool prices for second year

AYLSHAM Grain has announced what it describes as top pool prices for its 115 members for the second year running – though it awaits other results with interest.

"As most merchants and co-ops are operating grain pools, they should be more transparent and be prepared to publish results," says Andrew Dewing, general manager.

For the record, feed wheat pool price, basis May payment, was £86.50/t after deducting all commission and haulage costs, but before HGCA levy and weighbridge charges. Milling wheat achieved a £25/t premium. &#42

Cheese factory to get new facilities

A NEW cheese store and pre-pack hall are to be built at Milk Marque Developments Aeron Valley cheese factory.

The cost of the project remains unclear, though the Welsh Office is supplying £600,000 towards the venture and such joint funding is usually done on a like-for-like basis. Further funding for building is due from the Development Board for Rural Wales.

Increasing storage capacity will give the factory a larger share in the expanding mature cheese market, says MMD chairman Andrew Dare. &#42
