THE ring at Chelford Agricultural Centre in Cheshire was packed to capacity this week when auctioneers Frank R Marshall staged the marts first digital sale of store and breeding cattle, store sheep and dairystock.
More than 50% of the entries found buyers, with stronger feeding cattle, feeding lambs and dairy stock of all classes most readily traded.
The days top price of £720/head was given for three newly calved Holstein heifers consigned by J Bradbury, Stockport. Two batches of smart heifers from Messrs Fryer, Wincham, Cheshire – pregnancy tested to calve next spring – realised £485 taken by a Cumbria buyer.
Quality bulling heifers made up to £415 and six-week-old heifer calves sold to £150.
Big beef steers close to subsidy claims peaked at £312 for a cross-bred Belgian Blue, with Angus cross steers at £292 and Charolais cross steers at £290.
The best store lambs saw Texel x Mule ewe lambs to £29.50 from T Burke, Altrincham, Cheshire with mixed Charolais crosses to £23 and North Country Mule gimmers up to £51 (Frank R Marshall and Co). *
