Clomazone scores well

OILSEED rape herbicide Centium 360 CS (clomazone) offers better control of polygonums and cleavers in sugar beet than metamitron, provided soils are sufficiently moist after application, according to work at the Dutch Institute of Sugar Beet Research in Bergen op Zoom.

Field studies of the FMC product over the past two seasons show post-emergence use gives equivalent control of fat-hen, field bindweed, knotgrass, black nightshade and chickweed. For scented mayweed another residual herbicide should be added in a tank mix. UK approval for use in sugar beet, potatoes and pulses is hoped for in time for next season. &#42
