Clubs expand role with help of SNFU
YOUNG farmers are to be given places on the main commodity committees of the Scottish NFU, following talks between the union and the Scottish Association of Young Farmers Clubs.
"In the past, the young farmers movement has been mainly a social club. In the rest of Europe young farmer organisations have had a higher profile and have been more politically active.
"We want to encourage that attitude in Scotland and move to a position where YFC membership is a stepping stone to joining the NFU," said union vice president Jim Walker.
The move to have YFC representatives will now have to be ratified by the SNFU council.
