Coffee club to counter price slide

THE worlds coffee producing countries are banding together
to form a cartel in a bid to stop the slide in the price of green
coffee beans.

Key producers, including Brazil and Colombia,
are looking to form an Opec-style alliance aimed at limiting exports,
reports The Times.

The 14-strong Association of Coffee
Producing Countries will meet in London next week, and the scheme
could be launched in April.

Coffee output is soaring while consumption
is flat and the price of robusta beans has fallen to a seven-year
low of less than $1000 (£620) a tonne.
