Confusion over El Nino effect on Ivory Coast cocoa

The International Cocoa Organisation secretariat challenged a pessimistic forecast over the size of the Ivory Coasts 1997-98 cocoa crop. There is great confusion over the effects the El Nino weather pattern could have on it.

It has so far failed to discover “statistically relevant linkages” between the weather system and lower than average Ivory Coast cocoa harvests.
