Conniven crowds

STOCK in their first or second lactations and with high protein performances drew a crowd to the short-notice dispersal of the Conniven herd of Holstein Friesians.

Staged at Carlisle on the retirement of owners Messrs J M W Crosbie, Kirkgunzeon, Dumfries, the sale saw a top price of 1150gns.

Carnwath, Lanarkshire buyers I J Jackson paid most for a young non-pedigree cow due in September to Rudolph.

On offer were 120 cows and heifers at 6786kg (4.07% butterfat and 3.56% protein).

Averages: 95 cows £751; 17 served heifers £914; 12 recently served heifers £552 and 28 maiden heifers £431. (Harrison and Hetherington)
