Convert muck spreader to a forage feeder
THE ability to use one machine for two different tasks has not been lost on KB Design.
By fitting a discharge rotor and hood to its Bigmuk 308 and 310 spreaders, KB Design claims to have transformed its muck spreaders into low cost forage feeders. Called the Bigmuk Bigfeeda 308 and 310, the models offer capacities of 8cu m and 10cu m respectively.
"We already had a high capacity muck spreader in the range, so it seemed a sensible approach to develop a feeder mechanism, enabling the spreaders to be used as feeders," explains managing director Keith Broomhall.
The feeder attachment comprises an adjustable hood and small diameter hydraulically driven discharge rotor – the latter throws feed against the hood, deflecting material away from the machines wheels.
Quick release clamps are used to locate the feeding hood on the muck spreader, so the machine can be used for either operation. However, refitting the hood after an over-ambitious loader driver has put several loads of muck through the spreader could require a degree of patience and a good sledge hammer.
Mr Broomhall admits that his Bigfeeda is not in the same league as those machines carrying out total mixed ration feeding, but adds that it offers a degree of mixing and shredding as material is discharged into the feed passage.
Prices start at £9975 for the 8cu m, 308 model.
A hood and small diameter discharge rotor is all thats needed, says KB Design, to convert its 308 and 310 muck spreaders into low-cost forage feeders.
