Cook to confront Mugabe
BRITISH foreign secretary Robin Cook is set to confront Zimbabwes president Robert Mugabe over invasions of white-owned farms when they attend a summit in Cairo on Monday (03 April).
Mr Cook is pressing for free and fair elections, an end to illegal squatting on white farms and safeguards for peaceful demonstrations in Zimbabwe.
More than 700 white-owned farms have been occupied in recent weeks. A High Court ruling for police to remove squatters has been largely ignored.
Anti-government demonstrators were attacked and beaten up in violent scenes in the capital Harare on Saturday (01 April).
