Coquetside herd peaks at 1080gns
NORTHUMBERLAND dairy farmer Peter Forsyth dispersed his Coquetside Holstein herd at Borderway Mart, where prices peaked at 1080gns and 105 milking cattle averaged £503.
"It was heartening to see so many bidders, particularly on a day when dairy farmers were marching in Carlisle city centre. Trade was keen, albeit realistic, in the current climate," said auctioneer Edward Brown.
The February calved heifer Coquetside Sexy Raven led the trade and heads for the Slatequarry herd of Ian Hanilton in Co Tyrone. She is by San Fermo Aerostar Raven and out of a Sunny Boy dam from the Moet Roxy family. Her non-registered yearling sister by Raider made 380gns.
Youngstock prices ranged from 250-320gns for daughters of Jed, Shark, Aero Wade, Luke, Esquimau and Aeroline. The 31 served heifers averaged £402 and 38 bulling heifers levelled at £237. *
