Cornwall snaps up prize Sou Devon for 3600gns
ONE of the breed society sales staunchest supporters collected the top price of 3600gns when South Devon cattle breeders gathered in Exeter for their annual autumn fixture.
Richard Harvey, who has been selling at society events for 25 years, saw his show winner Sexton Henry claimed by Cornish breeder Peter Rowe for his Trewint herd at Liskeard.
Henry, a first prize winner at this years Royal Show, where he also stood reserve inter-breed junior beef champion, is by Sexton Hermes 2 and out of Sexton Bringgood – herself a winner of 39 championships.
Another Hermes son from Mr Harvey made 2000gns to R Hallidays Browda herd at Callington, Cornwall.
And not to be outdone in the female trade, Mr Harvey also achieved the top price here, selling the in-calf heifer Sexton Snowdrop 325 for 950gns to Peter Pratt who runs the Woodgreen herd at Stourport, Worcs.
Among the bulls, Grove Charlemagne 14 from W * D Scott, Glos realised 2400gns to Sir Simon Day, Devon and Grove Germanicus 2 heads for Lincs at 2200gns with Garner and Sons for their Ortum herd.
Another 2200gns call came from G * Bowser, Boston, Lincs, for Brettles Valentino consigned by Mark and Margie Rushbrooke, Worcs.
And Cornwall breeder Clive Mitchell paid 2100gns for Waddeton Brut 3 from * Tully and Sons, Brixham, Devon.
