Countryside still charms most

RURAL life still holds charms for the majority of the British population, despite the feeling that it looks worse than 50 years ago, according to a new survey.

More than seven out of 10 people think the countryside offers a better quality of life than towns and cities.

The survey was commissioned by rural business consultants Strutt & Parker and conducted by Gallup earlier this year.
