GROWERS receiving pesticide usage surveys from CSL should take the time to fill them in and describe their spraying practices warts and all, says the Crop Protection Association.
"We would ask them to be scrupulously honest about what they do and not just give the text book answers," says stewardship manager, Patrick Goldsworthy.
"That is very important for the whole pesticide stewardship initiative so that we understand where the warts in application practice are and where they are not," he says.
Initiatives to improve practice from the baseline established by the survey will then be better targeted, he reasons.
Face-to-face surveys are being conducted with 350 farmers, and a further 1000 are being surveyed by post. Both exercises will be representative by region and farm size and neither should take more than an hour to complete, he says. *
