NFU warns of scammers claiming to be energy company

Scammers claiming to be NFU Energy suppliers are targeting farm businesses, the union has warned.

NFU Energy provides advice and practical support to rural businesses and acts as a buying group to achieve discounts for its members.

But the NFU has received reports from members who have taken phone calls from brokers and energy companies purporting to be an NFU Energy supplier.

The scam companies attempt to pressure farmers into signing new contracts. However, the union warns that these companies have no relation to the NFU or NFU Energy and should be ignored.

Often the scammer appears genuine, but has taken the farm’s supplier name, supply number and address from information made publicly available on an electricity database.
