Police probe after newborn lamb shot in the head

Police are investigating after a newborn lamb was shot in the head and killed.

The sickening attack happened at Godmersham Park estate, in Godmersham, near Canterbury, Kent, sometime between 6pm on Wednesday and 6am Thursday (25-26 March).

Officers believe a rifle was used to shoot the lamb in the head. The lamb died instantly.

A tweet posted on the Twitter account @kentpolicerural said: “Started shift with call to lamb having been shot through head with a rifle last night Godmersham area.”

A Kent Police spokesman later confirmed that police were investigating an incident of criminal damage. No other animals were injured.

Farmers in the area are being urged to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to police.
