POLICE ARE warning gundog owners to be extra vigilant following a number of thefts.
West Yorkshire Police have issued the warning because recently a number of dogs have been recovered in the region.
Force Wildlife Officer PC Sally Smart said: “Whilst the majority of gundog thefts are reported in the Home Counties, incidents in Yorkshire and the Midlands are becoming more common place.
“Gundogs are primarily taken by people who know what they are looking for. They may be taken for their skills or for the purpose of breeding.”
The force is encouraging owners with valuable dogs to get them micro-chipped and take extra security measures wherever possible.
People with information about dog-napping incidents are encouraged to contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
