Crops ‘melt’ in Oklahoma heat
CROP fields in Oklahoma, USA, have been “melting” from a heatwave which has killed 80 people in neighbouring Texas.
The Times carries a picture of a farmer inspecting a parched field of maize outside Faxon, in Oklahoma.
The National Weather Service fears the weather could continue for another week. It also warned that the humid north east was likely to be the next hard-hit region.
The south west is currently taking the brunt with one of the hottest months since records began. Temperatures have reached more than 100°F (38°C)
