A BIG crowd filled the ringside for the dispersal of the Cotehouse and Mika Holstein herds paying a top price of 1650gns and levelling the trade for milking cattle at £721.
Mika Dom Gemma 2nd, having just completed her second lactation at over 11,460kg, realised the top bid to Ian Montgomerys Smiddiehill herd, Wolverhampton.
Gemma 2nd is by Dombinator and has a PLI of +£100 and achieved a last lactation value of £2058. There are five successive generations of VG and EX cows behind her and her Starbuck-sired dam reached a best of 13,245kg from eight lactations with six over 10,000kg.
Best for Cotehouse was 1050gns paid by Stalmine, Blackpool dairy farmers M E and J Swarbrick. The second calver Cotehouse Ohio Bellus (VG88), by Juniper Secret Ohio, had given 10,900kg as a heifer and had been calved since November. (Wright-Manley). *
