Cruelty pair plead guilty
TWO men admitted 74 charges of animal cruelty and neglect in a case which the judge described as the worst he had ever encountered.
David John Carter of Hartopp Road, Melton Mowbray, Leics, and Peter Miller of Twenty, near Bourne, Lincs, pleaded guilty to the charges. Nearly 100 sheep became diseased and went blind, Melton Mowbray magistrates court heard on Monday (Aug 20). The animals were discovered at Massfield Farm, Cold Overton, Leics, by an RSPCA inspector last year.
Mr Miller, who is already serving a prison sentence for similar offences, was sentenced to a further six months and banned for life from keeping livestock. Mr Carter was released on unconditional bail for six weeks while psychiatric reports are prepared. *
