Cruelty to farm stock on the decline — RSPCA

CASES of cruelty to farm animals showed a dramatic decline last year, according to the RSPCA.

The number of cases of cruelty against cattle dropped to 44 last year, compared with 186 previously. While the number of cases of cruelty against sheep dropped to 150, compared with 168 previously.

Pigs also fared better, with only 39 cases of cruelty compared with 65 previously.

However, the number of cases of animal cruelty in the wider community rose last year – with the RSPCA making 2,650 convictions compared with 2,282 in 1996.
