Deer farmers aim to raise profile

THE HERALD today reports on efforts being made to raise the publics perception of farmed venison which is becoming popular with farmers.

The British Deer Farmers Association represents 275 commercial deer farmers in the UK, a 30% increase on membership three years ago, with a production of 600 tonnes per year.

Farmed venison sells for around £1.75/lb, but wild venison fetches only 40-50p/lb, less than a third of what it earned two years ago.
