Dengie profits increase
DESPITE a downturn in its lucerne production and dehydration business, farmer-owned Dengie Crops has announced an increase in profitability for the last financial year.
Operating profits for the year ending Apr 2001 rose by almost £0.25m, based on a static turnover of £18.5m.
Chairman of the Essex-based firm, Michael Pudney, put the improvement down to tighter management control of expenditure, and says a rise in co-operative buying and marketing activities has helped to improve overall business efficiency.
The lucerne operation, Dengies principal business, suffered due to poor weather and unfavourable exchange rates. But the firm says a new range of equine feeds is helping to boost sales in the UK and overseas. *
