Description-only lamb sale at Lairg
By FWi staff
THE Lairg lamb sale is to go ahead, but North Country Cheviot lambs passing through sale rings will be sold “by description” only this year.
United Auctions, the Perth-based auctioneers who run the Lairg sales, plans to hold the sale on 29 August (01738 626183).
Each year thousands of Cheviot lambs are sold through Lairg sale rings, with about 30,000 lambs changing hands at the August fixture alone.
But even though live sales might be allowed in Scotland from September, no compromises will be made over bio-security, said United Auctions David Leggat.
A catalogue of entries will be produced as usual and will be circulated to regular buyers. Entries for the sale must be received by United Auctions by 15 August.
