Dichlorophen stays on
POTATO storage product dichlorophen will remain available to agricultural users for the foreseeable future.
The chemicals approval for use and sale in four garden-use pesticides was revoked last week. Experimental evidence showed some liquid formulations could cause serious eye irritation, a risk considered unacceptable under the strict safety standards applied to that market.
But its agricultural approval continues. The product, sold as Halophen RE49, is applied professionally by contractors. "That is a totally different situation to garden centre products," says a technical spokesperson for maker, McMillan. *
