DNA test can find the real parents

SETTLING paternity disputes and providing confirmatory evidence for the blood-line of cattle using DNA profiling is possible with a service offered by Reading Scientific Services.

The service is said to match the DNA of an animal against that of its assumed parent, using either blood, semen or hair samples.

Samples can also be analysed for certain genetic traits to aid herd breeding decisions, says the firm.

DNA evidence may also be used to provide an audit trail for any animal, verify its identity or the source of products, such as meat and semen.

The service costs about £100 a sample (0118-9868541, fax 0118-9868932).
