LIVESTOCK farmers are being advised to check their forage areas closely before making any further beef special premium or suckler cow premium claims.

"If additional claims are likely to result in a stocking rate of just over 1.4 livestock units a hectare, it may be worth holding back a few claims to keep below this limit and attract the extra extensification payment of £29 a head," says Signet consultant, Ian Ross.

And even where BSP claims have already been made, it may be worth reducing SCP claims to keep under the 1.4LU/ha limit."
