East Sussex sales go to non-farmers
IN THE past two years the 11 farms sold in East Sussex by Strutt & Parker were bought by either non-farmers or rollover funds according to the firms Mark McAndrew.
"All the purchases were governed by the house," said Mr McAndrew, "Although only about half of the farms had a decent one some of the buyers were prepared to take the risk of getting the necessary permission to extend."
The farms ranged in acreage from 150-400 and seven were dairy units.
"The vendors of these farms were either relocating to the west country or retiring from dairying," he said, "Dairying in the south east is going to become a thing of the past I think with the industry consolidated into the better grass growing areas".
