EC tallow ban threatens trade row

THE EC ban on tallow – part of the response to the BSE crisis – could spark a trade row with the USA.

Tallow-using industries, including pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and plastics manufacturers, risk temporary shutdowns if they cannot get their raw material.

The USA, Canada and New Zealand could be barred from exporting tallow to Europe.
