El Niño threatens southern harvest chaos

EL NIÑO, the global climate system, will cause drought and flooding and raise commodity prices.

A feature in The Independent says the current El Niño will rank as at least the second worst this century.

South Africa faces a halving of its corn crop. Cocoa, coffee and tea harvests will be affected. The weather system will also threaten southern-hemisphere maize and wheat harvests.
