Elliott bull fetches top price at Devon
CUTCOMBE Oliver, a June 1998-bred bull from Margaret Elliotts herd at Dulverton, achieved the top price of 1400gns at the Devon Cattle Breeders Societys show and sale at Hatherleigh Market.
By Forde Abbey Oliver, he weighed 586kg at 500 days and was bought by K Farmer, Honiton.
Judge RJ Harding selected Umberleigh breeders Messrs Brightley Farms Brightley Diamond 6th as champion. This Nynehead Candidate son combines some of the Devon breeds most well known bloodlines. He has a Beef Value of 37 putting him in the breeds top 30% on performance. Buyer at 850gns was Phillip Huxtable, Challacombe, Devon.
The reserve championship went to Messrs G Dart & Sons, Molton with their Elmford Navigator sired Champson Captain. The bull was unsold.
Females sold to 510gns paid for a second calver by Halsbury Napoleon from the Clampit herd of DM Barker, Callington, Cornwall. She was suckling a heifer calf. Maiden heifers reached 370gns for an entry from the Boswarthen herd of JS & AM Nicholls, Penzance. (KVN Stockdale) *
