End of the line for Beverley market

BEVERLEY Market in East Yorkshire stopped trading on Thursday (05 April).
After a battle with East Riding County Council to continue its lease, auctioneer Frank Hill & Son has agreed to vacate the site and move operations to another location.
The market was granted a temporary stay of execution by the council last year, when its lease ran out and the site was earmarked for a retail store for supermarket giant Tesco.
The market was allowed to continue trading on the site as a “legal trespasser”, until the developers moved in.
Ralph Ward of Hull Livestock Market Ltd, the company that runs the Beverley site, said it had located a new venue at Dunswell, East Yorkshire, which it hoped to be using shortly once some planning difficulties were sorted out.
He scotched any rumours that this was related to foot-and-mouth movement restrictions curtailing revenue. Until then trading will continue from the offices of Frank Hill & Son at Patrington.
