Awards for water issues
YOUNG PEOPLE interested in water management or irrigation issues again have the opportunity to apply for an international travel award.
The Jack Wright Memorial Trust awards one or more scholarships (to a maximum of £1750) every year to young people wishing to travel overseas to study aspects of water management in relation to agriculture.
Last year‘s subjects included competition for water between farming and tourism in Cyprus, conflict for water in Israel and water use in Africa, explained Mike Carr, chairman of the Trust.
“Water use is an international issue, many of the problems faced by other countries about competition for water are similar to those facing UK farmers,” he said.
The Trust also administers a £500 award on behalf of the UK Irrigation Association (www.ukia.org) for studies into aspects of irrigation likely to benefit the UK industry, he added.
