Beach shut after 15,000 litre slurry spill

Fifteen thousand litres of slurry have spilled from a farm storage tank in Wales, threatening a nearby beach.

The beach at New Quay in Ceredigion has been closed while the fire service deals with the spill.

It is believed that the tank burst and slurry spilled into a stream that leads to the sea.

A spokesperson for Natural Resources Wales said the agency was working with the fire service to contain the slurry and safely dispose of it.

“We believe the quantity of slurry that has entered the stream and the sea will disperse quickly with the tide and the wind, and is unlikely to have any significant or lasting impact on water quality,” said the spokesperson.

“Our officers will continue to monitor the situation over the coming days.”
