EU vets vote on US beef ban
EUROPEAN UNION (EU) veterinary experts are expected to vote today (Tuesday) to ban imports of hormone-free beef from the USA after some shipments were found to contain hormones.
The ban, if adopted, would take effect from 15 June unless the US authorities could prove they had solved the problem by then, officials said.
The EUs executive Commission called for a ban last week after scientific tests showed that 12% of supposedly hormone-free US beef contained residues of hormones.
