Express to close Durham dairy
By FWi staff
EXPRESS DAIRIES, one of Britains biggest milk and cream suppliers, has announced the closure of its Durham dairy with the loss of 109 jobs.
The closure is part of an overhaul of the companys glass bottling facilities, which has already seen it close plants in Wakefield and Ruislip.
Three months ago, the company said 12 of its doorstep distribution depots north of London would receive bottled milk supplies from Nottingham.
At the same time, it announced that 11 depots in central and south London would be supplied from Arlas Hatfield Peverel dairy in Essex.
The Leicester-based group, which employs around 7,000 people, has a market share of around 30%.
