Farmer wins cowpat case

A DAIRY farmer has won legal case after being taken to court for allowing his cows to do what comes naturally.

Brian Hibbert, of Wellfield Farm near Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, was prosecuted for dung his cows dropped on the A640. A retired policeman was injured after skidding on them on his motorcycle.

The rider reported the incident to the police and Mr Hibbert became embroiled in a nine-month legal battle which is estimated to have cost the taxpayer more than £3,000. Last week, he was cleared of any offence by Huddersfield magistrates.

Mr Hibbert was charged with depositing slurry on the public highway contrary to highways regulations.
